Kings and Queens

We held Kings and Queens in the marquee on the Green in Danebury Avenue on 26 August with approximately 200 people attending.  Our theme was “The Oscars” and we gave everyone an Oscar as an appreciation of their contribution to society.  We also honoured three local people for their dedication and commitment to the people of Roehampton and beyond.  They were Pam Harris for her work with the Over 60s Cafe, Alan Housden for his commitment to the community over the years and Rosie Taylor-Davies for her dedication to providing scrubs to many hospitals throughout Covid as well as enrolling about 100 volunteers from across Roehampton.  Our guests were entertained by Grandpa’s Spells, Robbie and Atlantis and along with a raffle and a game of Bingo, they enjoyed a delicious lunch.  A good time was had by all and we look forward to hopefully repeating Kings and Queens in 2024.

Welcome to RISE+

RISE+ is supporting hospitals across SW London including St George’s Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital with a “Home from Hospital” discharge plan.  The team are currently visiting the Senior Health wards to get to know patients and give individual support on discharge.  We provide a gift of a dressing gown along with a food parcel on arrival home and visit the patient several times initially to ensure the patient settles well  to avoid readmission to hospital.  Referrals are from the Discharge Co-ordinators, OTs, Physiotherapists and Social Workers and the Referral Form can be downloaded by clicking on the link below:

Bryce is our RISE+ Outreach Co-ordinator and is well known to our patients and to the staff on the wards.  Our work includes receiving hospital beds and equipment for patients in their homes, moving furniture around to make a suitable micro environment to adapt to patient’s changing needs and a variety of support to suit the individual.    We are a small team that provide a quick response and will do whatever we can to ensure the safe return of a patient home and also assist with anything that needs doing.

Our RISE+ team are Bryce, Debbie, Toney and Jackie and we currently have three volunteers, Robert, Ray and Mo.

“The multi-disciplinary team on the ward have witnessed how helpful you all have been, providing quick responses to our referrals and queries and efficient support to the patients which have helped to contribute to reducing hospital discharge delays” OT

“Forever thankful for what you have done for me” Patient

The Challenge of the Coronavirus Crisis

Regenerate-RISE is very grateful to the 201 volunteers that have offered their services over the last 10 weeks and we want to say a big “thank you” to all those who have been available to deliver Supply Bags, Lunches and Expressions of Kindness as well as contact by telephone, do shopping, collect prescriptions and generally care about the welfare of older people across the borough. It has been a pleasure and a privilege for our staff to work alongside so many people willing to give up their time to serve the community.  We are also grateful to Waitrose, to Sainsburys, to AFC Wimbledon, to Hillsong, to Wandsworth Council and to all the individuals who have provided food donations or monetary gifts to enable us to provide the services.

Following some very uncertain times with the renting of the Platt Christian Centre in Putney, the Trustees have put in an offer to purchase the building in order that the services that we provide for older people will continue for years to come.  The world is a different place now to what it was 6 months ago and the Coronavirus has forced everyone to go into isolation and whilst supporting so many at home – we are now looking at what our service will look like when they can return to our Centres.  We are still planning to build our 10 bed Reablement Unit, although the purchase of the Platt Centre was not in the plan, but we are moving forward with the same enthusiasm and will look forward with hope and a determination to see it come to fruition.

If you would like to support Regenerate-RISE to continue work from the Platt Christian Centre in Felsham Road, please email us and if you would like to do a fundraising event to raise funds for us to continue our work from the Platt Centre, please let us know – we would love to hear from you.
